How It Began
From the young age of 8 years old, Sami knew horses were her life. While money was always a roadblock, it never stopped her from pursuing her dreams. None of that would’ve been possible without the constant encouragement and sacrificing her loving parents made. They pulled together the funds to buy her first horse, an auction horse for the rock bottom price of $450. From there, they quickly realized lessons would be needed. They gladly found the money and time to attend bareback lessons and eventually buy a second “confidence builder” horse for her. From there Sami started working off lessons and a lease on a horse to use for 4-H.

Flash-The Horse That Started It All
The first time I saw flash he was tied in an auction stall, wide eyed but well mannered. We were warned of watching out for drugged horses, sick horses, old horses, and lame horses. Flash was a mid-age, healthy gelding that seemed well mannered and calm. I will always remember the day the man grabbed me and tossed me on his back and the moment of fear that shook me. We had several horses on our list to bid on, but most quickly went out of our budget. When Flash walked out, my mom lifted her panel. A few bids proceeded…but no one wanted a grade Arabian. My mom leaned down and whispered in my ear; we just bought a horse! Upon getting Flash home to our small <1 acre home, we quickly realized we may have bit off more than we could chew. He zoomed around our penned area nonstop with the beautiful terrifying grace of an Arabian. After a month, we decided to take him for his first outing…with a rider that had sat on a horse a handful of times….in a 40-acre cow pasture…. after 30 days of sitting in a small pasture. Anyone familiar with horses is probably shaking their head. We all learn eventually and bless those sweet souls that teach us and put up with us. After picking myself up out of the dirt we quickly realized we needed help.
Introduction To BLM Mustangs
We quickly realize lessons were needed. We found a local trainer that trained mustangs and also offered bareback/horsemanship lessons. After learning a seat and basic handling skills I began to hunger for knowledge. I read and watched John Lyon, Pat and Linda Parelli, Monte Roberts, and ANY other methodologies I could get my hands on. I would take these methods and practice them with Flash, whom had been deemed un-rideable by several trainers. I refused to give up on him and spent two years doing nothing but groundwork with him.
